Amaka strolled into her sister’s room, she thought he would be glad if she came upon her with her breakfast, in that unexpected manner. She went forward and touched her softly on her shoulder.
It was a rimy saturday morning, the window pane looked as if it had been used as a pocket handkerchief by some Teary Goblin overnight.
It was a rimy saturday morning, the window pane looked as if it had been used as a pocket handkerchief by some Teary Goblin overnight.
She shook her gently and her sister jerked fully awake, rubbing her face hastily. She was obviously enjoying her sleep before Amaka’s intrude.
‘Good morning’ 18years old Uju greeted.
‘Morning, you know today is your sent-forth party, so go get dressed, here is your breakfast!’ She said pointing to the food-tray beside her.
‘Yeah,Mama called me yesterday, she said she want to see you for something important, and she want us to visit her soonest!’
‘She did?’
‘Yes, she did’ Uju said and left for the bathroom, while Amaka went to her room to take her bath. She was going to shop for the birthday Mama in her own little way.
Few minutes later, she came out with her towel wrapped around her body. She opened her wardrobe and brought out the clothes, she had bought the previous day. Her sent-forth party was the event to trip the light fantasy. She had decided to change some things about herself. Her religious convictions and beliefs were in the background. She want to change people’s views about herself. That explained the reason she brought a very skimpy gown, She had her nails and lashes fixed. She quickly dressed herself up. The party was starting less than five hours!
Taking a last minute look on herself, she knew she was different, but she didn’t care. Her face was adorned with heavy makeup, her natural beauty had left her minutes ago, she looked so artificial and fake. Her appearance and dressing screamed ‘take me to the nearest hotel and Bleep the hell outta me’. Her Bosom were not helping matters, as they were trying to burst out of the confinement they were in. Her exposed fresh laps and her hair-less legs were enough to drive any sane man crazy. She just got the wrong vibes of how things were supposed to be. Who knows what would unfold?
_______
‘And you’re just telling me?’ Amaka asked as she slumped on the couch in the living room, Afam had requested her to visit him earlier in the day for something important.
Conscious of Afam’s eagerness in knowing everything between Awesome and her, and the main reason why he (Awesome) would help her with a job. Amaka knew she had to let everything out about Awesome,he told him that Awesome was her bestfriend and they almost dated back then, she knew doing that would relieve her of the heavy burdens she held. That had happened two days back!
‘Is that a No?’
‘Yes! It is a no, because, I’m going out with Awesome tomorrow to his mother’s birthday Anniversary, he invited me first, and its annoying that your Award Night, falls on the same day, and I gave him my word, and I can’t take it back, I’m sorry, perhaps, next time, you would……
‘So, you’re not going with me? Afam interjected. ‘I mean this is one of the greatest moment of my life, and you’re forfeiting it because of an ordinary birthday party? You’re seriously unbelievable, so going out with my Fiancée is now a ‘first come, first serve’,eehn?
‘Its not an ordinary birthday party, Awesome told me on Monday, and you’re just telling me now, a day to the event, I’m sorry, I can’t’ She said firmly.
That really did made him stared at her, why was their relationship going topsy-turvy?. Its’ like she had no time for him! The more he tried to spice it up, the more she drifts away. what could have been the obstacle? Could it be her recent employment? Afam bottled all his feelings about her working under the same roof with Awesome. Even though, he didn’t know much about him. He was not comfortable with his heartrob at Awesome’s mercy!
‘I want you to stop working in his company, I can fix you somewhere with just a phone call in a friend’s company’
‘No!’ She roared.
‘Why?’
‘For, two years, we’ve been in love, you didn’t deem it fit to ‘fix’ me somewhere, just when Awesome helped me by securing employment for me in his dad’s company, you’re now trying to redeem your ego, I won’t stop working there, for your information’
‘What’s holding you back? Your past feelings for him? Or because you see that as an opportunity to rekindle what you both had in the past? You told me, he was your bestfriend and you two almost dated back then, right? Is that your motive for working there? Did you tell me you’re not comfortable with your teaching job? Afam yelled.
He was shouting now and he didn’t care.
Unsatisfied with Amaka’s silence, he paced the spacious living room angrily.
He was shouting now and he didn’t care.
Unsatisfied with Amaka’s silence, he paced the spacious living room angrily.
‘WHAT.IS.HOLDING.YOU.BACK??’ He screeched
The question cut through Amaka’s heart like a sharp tongue, perhaps, a kitchen sharp knife. She was greatly mystified, the question rang loudly in her mind as she asked herself personally. What was holding her back from quitting the job? Could it be her past feelings? She can’t just fathom it. She had been so attracted to her work, perhaps, Awesome? Whichever way, she wasn’t ready to stop working in his company!
Amaka couldn’t decipher if she was crying or laughing. All she knew was that she was making some audible sounds. Unable to hold it all in, She stormed out of the room. It all seemed like a dream to her.
_________
Getting to her house, she was welcomed with a different Uju, She stared at the creature in front of her, and it got her jaw dropping in astonishment. Her face widened in great horror! What has happened?
‘I’m about going for my party’ Uju said.
‘I-I-I——I’m—y-you—g-going’ She stammered and opened her mouth anew.
‘Eat your cake! Feed your eyes! And close your mouth,Amaka’ Uju retorted indifferently when she saw Amaka staring at her.
With that, she left a stunned Amaka and sauntered out of the house, if only she knew what awaits her!
He sighted her afar, and was elated. She was wearing a long white flowery gown that brought out her hourglass figure. She had her smokey eyes on and her hair fell gracefully across her shoulders.
‘Thanks for coming’ He said, all smiles.Awesome stared at her with glee. He was never tired of looking at her. She had this aura of a confident, focused young lady. He strolled over to her, held her by her hands and opened the door to the house, making believe that it was a habit of his to open that door.
‘Wouldn’t miss it for the world, Can I see your mummy?’
Awesome led her to living room where various visitors were seated. The party was starting in the next fifteen minutes.
‘Happy Birthday, ma’ Amaka curtsied and gave Awesome’s mummy the little gifts she had brought.
‘All these for me?’ She asked
‘They are….
She was interjected by a young girl who should be in her early twenties. She looked stunning in her short gown.
‘Mummy, the party has started nao, what are you waiting for?’ She said in a breath and mumbled an audible ‘hey’ to Amaka.
Awesome’s mummy left the living room and went to the hall. Awesome held Amaka’s hands and smiled, saying a million things with that single touch. Tolu looked at him and smiled.
Awesome left minutes later, Tolu sauntered to Amaka who was alone.
‘Hi, the black brotch on your gown is amazing, the whole outfit is great, you must be tired of compliments?’Tolu asked.
‘Mm’ She mumbled and held on her honest ‘Thank you’ She said truthfully.
‘I’m Tolu, Awesome’s brother’
‘I’m Ama….
‘Amaka right? He told me about you!’
Tolu had this unhealthy habit of talking fast as if eating hot yam.
‘He did? Well I’ve always wondered why he was given the name ‘Awesome’, it sounds somehow’
‘Rumours has it that, when my mummy delivered him, and my dad went to visit, the first thing he said was ‘This is Awesome’ and since then, the name stuck’
‘Oh, Nice’
‘Yes, so you two are like da…..
‘Not at all, He’s just a friend’ Amaka interrupted.
‘Oh,I see, he’s cheerful with you, see the way he was smiling sef, Unlike when he’s with Lola’ Tolu said loosely.
Amaka gulped down something close to jealousy. Awesome never told her about Lola. She hated being kept in the dark about something. Probably why the next question that came out startled her such a manner that the question must be from someone else, definitely not her.’Who is Lola?’ She asked calmly.
‘His girlfriend’ Tolu said fastly again
‘Awesome has a girlfiend?’ Amaka asked. The realization of the truth hit her like a heavy blow.
‘You don’t know?’ Tolu said. She had a mixed feeling about what she said. ‘C’mon, let’s go to the hall, you don’t wanna miss this?’ Tolu concluded and dragged Amaka to the main hall.

‘So, today marks everything we had shared because I’m leaving…….’The young girl who sat outside with a guy, stopped abruptly when she saw her partner was not listening, his attention fixed on something else.
‘What are you doing?? Is that Uju or my eyes are on break?’
Eyes followed Uju everywhere as she entered the Nite-club meant for the party. Boys were staring at her with great lust plastered on their faces, while the ladies gave her different type of looks, ranging from Envy to Jealousy to hatred, some had shot her with their eyes.

She didn’t seemed to care about it though, She had never been to a party before, so, it all looked strange to her. She was going beneath her set standard. She entered quietly and sat down, taking full cognizance of the filled hall.
The interlocking of youthful bodies of both guys and girls on the dance floor was a thrill to watch for her. Sad, she didn’t know to dance, save for the few church dance moves, which obviously didn’t correlate with the latest hiphop sound blasting out.
Few drinks gone down, if only she knew it would be her last. She was tipsy and pressed at the same time.
WATCH OUT FOR PART 4 TOMORROW
