A MINNA Magistrate’s Court yesterday remanded two men, Abubakar 
Mohammed and Usman Kwari, in prison custody as they admitted kidnapping a
 teenager.<br />

The two were arraigned in court on a two-count charge of criminal 
conspiracy and kidnapping, contrary to sections 97 and 273 of the Penal 
Code, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.<br />
<br />

The prosecutor, Inspector Alfred Auta, told the court that one Alhaji
 Aliyu reported the matter at the Tegina Police Station on July 27, 
2015. Auta said the complainant alleged that the accused persons 
conspired and invaded his compound and kidnapped his 16-year-old son. 
The prosecutor said the accused persons were, however, arrested on their
 way out of town.<br />
<br />

When the charges were read to them, they pleaded guilty and begged 
the court for leniency. The prosecutor told the court that investigation
 into the matter was still ongoing, and asked for an adjournment to 
enable the police conclude their investigation.<br />
<br />

In her ruling, Magistrate Mariam King ordered the accused persons to 
be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the case till Aug. 17 for 
sentencing.<br />

The Nigerian military said Sunday it had   rescued 178 people from 
the Islamist militant group Boko Haram in northern Borno state.</div>

According to a BBC report, the army said in a statement  that 101 of those freed were children and a further 67 were women.</div>

According to Punch New, A 32-year-old man, Amatari Christmas, 
has committed suicide in Bayelsa State after discovering that his wife 
was allegedly cheating on him.</div>

Christmas allegedly took his life by 
consuming a insecticide known as ‘sniper’ when he found out that his 
wife, was allegedly having an illicit affair with an unnamed young man 
from Kolo area of the state.</div>

The deceased, an indigene of Ayama community in Yenagoa Local Government Area of the state, had two children.</div>

It was learnt that the incident, which occurred on Wednesday, made the indigenes of Kolo community angry.</div>

Some of the kinsmen of the deceased also

Three students Fisayo Adetoro, Emmanuel Omole, and Wale
 Ayeni‎ who specialize in defrauding unsuspecting members of the public 
through the internet have been arrested.</div>

In a Press statement Ondo Police Imagemaker, Mr. Oluwole Ogodo, said 
that ‎the three undergraduate students were members of a notorious 
internet fraud syndicate.</div>

Mr. Ogodo said that by using professional police tactics detectives 
from the Akure Area Command ‎nabbed the suspects at "Ilesha Garage and 
Delta Hotel" in Akure.</div>

Mr. Ogodo disclosed that Fisayo Adetoro is a 300-Level, Computer 
Science student at the Joseph Ayodele Babalola University, (JABU) in 
Ikeji Arakeji, Osun state. The Police Spokesman added that Emmanuel Omole and Wale Ayeni were 
expelled students of the Federal University of Technology Akure, (FUTA). ‎Mr. Ogodo narrated the method in which undergraduate students have 
been defrauding their victims: ‎</div>

"Through online transactions, the 
syndicate had, sometime in April 2015, requested six i-phones valued at

with Registration Number JS-28-EKY, and pretended to be heading for 
Government House, Akure.</div>

"On the way, they made a detour to Fiwasaye-Ijapo Road, Akure where 
they forcefully took the I-phones from Ajiboye, and pushed him out of 
the vehicle in motion. Ajiboye sustained various degrees of injuries and
 was rushed by Policemen at Ijapo Division to the Police Clinic, Akure 
for immediate medical attention.</div>

"On 25/5/2015, the syndicate also contacted one Akinola Segun of No. 
29/31 Awolowo Way, Ikeja, Lagos, and placed an order for another set of

(N820,000:00k).</div>

"They again lied that they were lecturers at the Elizade University, 
Ilara-Mokin. On arrival in Akure on 25/5/2015 at about 16:30hrs, they 
conveyed Akinola in their operational jeep to a hotel on Ondo Road, 
Akure. The three then drugged his food with swinol tablets and made away
 with the five I-phones.</div>

"The syndicate however ran out of luck on 2/6/2015 when they 
unknowingly contacted the same Akinola Segun on a different website and 
ordered five I-phones, and deceitfully presented themselves as lecturers
 from the College of Agriculture, Akure.</div>

"Akinola Segun immediately contacted the Akure Area Command’s office 
where the Area Commander, ACP. Edward Ajogun psc, with his team of 
detectives employed professional tactics that lead to their arrest of

The Police has impounded the alleged fraudsters’ operational 
vehicle,a Nissan Armanda Jeep, with Registration Number JS-28-EKY, 
valued at Two Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira.</div>

syndicate include: (i) three 16GB I-phones, (ii) one HTC phone, (iii)

and Sixty Seven Thousand Naira.</span></div>

Akure — FIVE suspected ritualists have been arrested at a shrine where 
abducted persons are slaughtered and their parts sold to prospective 
buyers at Ago Oyinbo in Okitipupa area of Ondo State.</div>

Consequently, upon discovery of the kidnappers den, youths in the town stormed the place and demolished it.</div>

<strong><em>Vanguard</em></strong> gathered that the suspects were 
arrested, following a tip-off by people of the community, who noticed 
strange movements and stench oozing out of the building.</div>

Men of Igbotako Police division reportedly effected the arrest of the suspects.</div>

Before their arrest, the suspects were alleged to have been occupying the building in the last three years.</div>

Sources informed newsmen that the suspected ritualists, after 
kidnapping their victims, usually take them to the shrine and 
slaughtered them for ritual purposes.</div>

The Baale of Ago Oyinbo, Chief Moyebi Okeowo, who spoke to newsmen, 
said the shrine must have been erected in 2012 when the suspects came to
 beg for a space in the village to use as location to shoot films.</div>

He said: “I asked somebody to take them to the owner of the land, 
unknown to him that they wanted to use the village as a kidnappers den.</div>

“When they came to me to beg for a piece of land to shoot their film,
 I told them I am not the owner of the land and I took them to the 
brother of the landlord of the land who took them to the wife of the 
landlord in Akure.</div>

‘I learned they were authorized by the wife of the landlord to use the land and since then, they have been using it.</div>

“When I did not know what they were using the land for, I told their 
leader to go and report their activities to the police and he later 
informed me that he had done so.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Okeowo explained that he was not aware of the activities of the 
suspects until last Monday when he got information that the suspects 
were using human beings for sacrifice on the land.</div>

Also, the Principal of Community Grammar School in neighbouring 
Kajola, in Odigbo Local Government Area of the state, Mr Joseph Edosama,
 said two of the security guards of the school were among the suspects 
arrested by the police for conspiring with the suspected kidnappers.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Another community leader, who spoke in confidence, explained that it 
had been long since the suspects started operating in the village.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
But the state police spokesman, Wole Ogodo, feigned ignorance of the 
development in the community, saying the state command had not been 
briefed by its Divisional police station at Igbotako.</div>
